While there’s been no content added to either the PlayStation or Xbox versions, you’ll still have plenty to do here. There’s the main questline to engage with that’ll take you through multiple monster quest tiers, which is somewhat short compared to other Monster Hunter titles. But the online hub quests expand that out even further, offering up more story content that goes beyond the end credits of the game, and has a number of challenging fights for experienced hunters. There’s also a whole host of free downloadable quests to engage with, encompassing the free DLC that’s come out on prior versions of the game. All in all, you’ll be able to spend a lot of time exploring and hunting down giant monsters, which is pretty much what you want out of a new Monster Hunter game.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise is an entertaining game. It has enough depth, action, and crafting to keep you and your team occupied for a while. It’s not perfect in some respects, but it’s good enough when you’re looking for a team-based game that is more coop than not.

Regardless of which version is played, though, the same thing holds true in 2023 that was evident a few years ago: Monster Hunter Rise is an excellent, massive game, and should be experienced by anyone with even a slight fondness for action-RPGs or monster hunting genres.

Monster Hunter’s return to PlayStation (and Xbox) is a very smooth transition. The game performs perfectly and gives more players the opportunity to head to Kamura Village for another awe inspiring adventure.

Routine but immensely fun monster hunt with slack environment optics and few innovations. A few real innovations and monster graphics would be desirable.

The ultimate hunting experience comes to PlayStation consoles with performance improvements and innovative gameplay features, but Monster Hunter Rise could have a better UX. It's uninviting system and the information overload are not very friendly for those who are new to the series.

Monster Hunter Rise’s fights are as enjoyable as ever with vastly expanded combat thanks to the new Wirebug. However, the removal of tutorials, and an overabundance of systems means the game isn’t as approachable as it could be.

Despite being a remastered switch game, it looks absolutely gorgeous on Ps5 in 4k, smooth framerate, up to 120fps, various performance options. It's not as detailed as World/Iceborne but it's just as fun to play, with a ton of monsters to hunt. The new wirebugs feature and doggy pet makes your hunter move around like never before. Recommended to any true monster hunter fan. Expand

Ok people are straight lying about this game on here... The game runs perfectly fine on ps5... On average 30+ frames higher than the switchOk people are straight lying about this game on here... The game runs perfectly fine on ps5... On average 30+ frames higher than the switch counterpart. The game was designed basically by the portable monster hunter team (The one's that worked on the psp titles) it was made to be played with portable gaming in mind, people who played world will find it's a less cinimatic game with more emphasis on combat. The combat also is faster and more mobile than world, but the actually quests themselves are not as difficult. I would say this is the best starting part to get into the series but Monster Hunter is not for everyone, it's a game that rewards you for learning the mechanics and not forgiving you if you don't. If you're a fan of online (can also be played offline) action rpgs with loot mechanics you can't do any better than Monster Hunter but not everyone will have the patience to master the mechanics. It's a pretty fun game. It's great to go hunt different monsters. My only complaint is that the game is too easy in the beginning.

With that said however, this does feel like a major downgrade compared to World. The coop aspects suck in this one. Just nowhere near the same fun level at all. They should never force you to do a story mode in these kind of games in Single player only...

I loved “Monster Hunter: World.” Spent hours and hours playing it solo and online.
That game came out many years ago, so I’ve had plenty of time to forget the mechanics, controls, monsters, etc.
Unfortunately, after a few hours playing “Monster Hunter: Rise”, “World” is coming back to me enough to realize that this is mostly a retread of “Monster Hunter: World.” There are really only a few main differences in “Rise” and “World”, and none of them make the game better. In fact, most of the changes make the game worse in my opinion.
The biggest change to gameplay is the wirebug, a tired mechanic that’s been used in basically any game that’s had a grappling hook in it.
The other changes are negatives that I don’t remember from “Monster Hunter: World.”
There was quite a learning curve in the first few hours of the game, even though I’d played this IP’s last release. So many mechanics at the hub, inventory management is tedious, and the choice of button-mapping for actions in hunts was the opposite of most adventure games I’ve played over the last decade or more.
The NPC’s are extremely corny and overly cutesy. This is a matter of taste, of course, but I don’t remember being so put off by the silly, overly sweet, never funny characters in Monster Hunter: World. This choice of style and atmosphere is so odd for a game that’s made around killing monsters and animals.
The user character’s dialogue is the repetitive, over-acted type you’d expect from a game made 15-20 years ago.
It’s a close race, but it’s probably the similarities that make this game hard to spend much time playing since I’ve already experienced 50-100 hours of “Monster Hunter: World.”
I recognize almost all of the monsters from the last game, but most of all, I feel like I’ve played this game many times before, many years ago.
The mechanics, gameplay loop, graphics, inventory, crafting, etc. are all tired cliches. The lack of innovation makes this game feel like it belongs in 2010 on a PS3 rather than in 2023 on a PS5. This game seems like it could’ve been made the very next year after “World”, like Madden has copy/paste yearly releases with superficial changes.
This game just feels like an uninspired money grab. I’m really surprised that the critics widely gave this game such good reviews. If you played Monster Hunter: World, I don’t recommend paying anywhere close to full price for this title.

    Enemies are just too hard.
The action is too slow and unexhilarating.
Weapon sharpness gauges are a hindrance. Collecting materials is work.
